Alexa Coastalwatch Skill

17 Jan 2018 0 Share

Yep, we have taught Alexa how to surf!

“Alexa, ask Coastalwatch …"

... Today’s surf report
... Tomorrow’s surf forecast
... Three day detailed surf forecast
... Tide times

The Coastalwatch skill for Alexa enables surfers to get detailed up-to-date information about surf conditions and surf forecasts for Australian beaches and surf spots.

Alexa is the cloud-based voice service from Amazon and the brain behind devices like Amazon Echo. Using Alexa is as simple as asking a question. Making the Coastalwatch Skill for Alexa a simple and natural way to check the surf using just your voice, while you go about doing your normal everyday stuff. (Look mum no-hands!)

From early 2018, Surfers can enable the Coastalwatch Skill for Alexa on any Alexa enabled device and receive up to the minute surf forecasts, surf reports, wind information and tide times simply by… asking Alexa.

So if you have an Alexa enabled device, you can enable the Coastalwatch skill right now!

Here's how to enable the Coastalwatch skill:
1. Go to: alexa.amazon.com.au (make sure you are logged in)
2. Search "Coastalwatch"
3. Click "Enable". The skill will now instantly be available on your connected device.
4. Now you are ready to use Coastalwatch.

It's very simple to open the Coastalwatch Skill, here's 2 ways to get it going.

With your Alexa Enabled device on:
1. Say "Alexa open Coastalwatch".
2. Or.. directly ask what you want with Coastalwatch in the question: For example: "Alexa, ask Coastalwatch what the surf is like at Snapper Rocks"

Tell Alexa your postcode and Coastalwatch will remember your closest beach, or it will remember your favourite beach with regular use of a location - whichever comes first.

If you enjoy the Coastalwatch skill for Alexa, please leave a rating and review on the Amazon Alexa Skill page.
