O'Neill PSYCHOFREAK Zen Zip 3/2 Wettie, Wear and Tear Follow-Up

I wore this suit maybe 30 times through the 2018 winter, specially late winter and into spring when the water temp fell to a persistent 15°C. There were some testing conditions and long paddles involved.

Looking at it now, the suit shows almost no visible signs of wear other than a little wax on the kneepads. There’s a slight fluffiness on the inside lining near the neck area where the Velcro from the neck closure has occasionally got caught and caused some abrasion. (It sorta rashed itself but it never rashed me, phew.) The neck collar, which pulls up and slips over your head from behind, has loosened slightly, not from the seam but from the rubber stretching a bit with use. Otherwise, the suit hasn’t loosened with wear at all, there is no degrading of the rubber and every seam remains sealed and tight, as do the wrist and ankle cuffs. The zip is fine.

I was pretty diligent with this suit, didn’t wear it twice in a row and washed it in warm water after every surf (a la under the shower). I am normally pretty slack about this stuff so maybe it’s also a lesson in care for me, look after your suit and it’ll look after you.

But in any case it basically still feels and looks like new and I imagine will stand up to several more winters at least. It reinforces my impression that these days, high end “built” wetsuits are increasingly made to last.
